Increasing my fiber intake in my fifties

This post is sponsored by P&G Everyday and all opinions are the writer’s.

If you aren´t regular in the bathroom, you already know it’s not much fun! I spent my youth trying different methods to increase my fiber intake, many of which caused cramping. I was a first-time mom later in life, at 37 and 40 respectively.

During each one of my two pregnancies, my doctor recommended that I use Metamucil Sugar Free Orange Smooth Powder Fiber Supplement, which contains natural psyllium. This is a soluble fiber that works with your digestive system to help it run smoothly*. It’s a great daily supplement to help maintain regularity*. I decided to give it a try. The result was being regular, feeling lighter*and ready to take on the world again.

Contrary to most women’s experience, from what I hear, having babies happily resulted in becoming regular! I have NO idea what happened down under, but after becoming a mom, I was regular in the bathroom.

I’ve always practiced sports and done my best to eat a healthy diet that includes fiber, so after a few years of regularity I was sure I was good to go. Well, turns out I wasn’t! At 51, I started getting all the menopause symptoms in the book. I pride myself in being a tough woman – I’ve passed kidney stones and during one of my births one baby impatient to come into the world just didn’t give the epidural time to kick in. But menopausal symptoms were just too much for me to bear. A couple of weeks into this personal hell (which is not the same for every woman) I ran to my doctor for help.

Given my personal and family health history I was a great candidate for HRT (hormone replacement therapy). I was extremely happy about this because it kept my symptoms in check and I could go on with my life!

A few years into menopause and HRT, well turns out progesterone has an unwanted side effect which it makes the bowels a bit “lazy.” It slows down the digestive process, and so a year ago, I started once again experiencing the very uncomfortable symptoms of sluggishness which still rears its ugly head even today. For me it results in a feeling of fullness and loss of appetite. At least this time around I knew what I could do about it! I went straight to P&G Everyday, and signed up to get coupons for Sugar Free Orange Smooth Powder Fiber Supplement, which once again has delivered its promise to get me back on track when it comes to being regular.
